In this crazy busy world, we often undervalue the practice of self introspection. Who are we? What do we stand for? How does this align with our greater purpose?
In this podcast series, we'll be hearing from inspiring value-driven individuals from all walks of life. The Values Dissect is a practice where we go over 5 values that have gotten you to where you are today. How these interrelate to each other and the stories told along ones journey is deeply personal and relatable.
I invite you to share your personal truth and bring to light past, present, and future in this telling tale of who you are and who you aspire to be.
5 Values Dissect with Fiona Potter
Fiona Potter is a dear friend of mine who embodies so many values of strength, sincerity, and empowerment. A humanitarian, Youtube sensation, vegan, political activist, podcast host, her journey towards self growth is inspirational and grounded with good intentions of living a noble life.
How she aligns her values with her mission is intrinsically woven from her rich experience coming out from struggle and personal hardship taking care of her family. How she develops her unique skills and manifests her voice into purpose ties in with her love for humanity and justice. How authenticity and integrity tie in towards her daily actions is something I personally want to explore and share.
Through this 5 Values Dissect process, we were able to flush out how far she's come along and revel in genuine excitement towards where she's heading.
Fiona's top 5 values are :
Connection. Sincerity. Justice. Empathy. Love
Listen to this podcast and follow the thread of how these values have been received and cultivated throughout her journey.
Some of my favorite quotes:
"There's 3 things you have to do before you sleep. Did you do anything that was against your values or morals today? Are you doing everything in your power to continue your education? Ultimately, are you doing anything in your power to serve? So this is plaguing me in the moment. But this question everyday "Am I serving?" Am I serving people? Am I really being of Service?" It's nagging me in the back. Pushing me. "Fiona come on, get your shit together, and do something."
"How do I be of service and make enough money to pay rent and look after my family? Okay, I have to look after my dad and sister. I can't just quit my job. It's not like I don't enjoy the work I do now. But I need something more. I want something more. It needs to hit something deep in my heart."
"I guess what I can share of something concrete, is that now that I have almost a taste of Authenticity, I'm so hungry for more. So be open to explore different facets of yourself. Be open to rethinking. Putting all the values and morals that you have, whether you're parents have given them, or society has given them, and looking at them openly, saying "I'm happy to abandon all of them and repick the things that matter to me." And then something will hit. Like going plant-based has been something truly profound for me."
"I'm choosing to live in alignment with my values and what I see is true and authentic. And that's fucking powerful. That's the one little bit of joy I get to experience 3 times a day, sometimes 5 if I have a snack."
"I really think we can move forward and do amazing things. It's so amazing we can do this now. So how do we harness this power in a positive way? And not in a negative spiral of venting all your anger online. How do we do that in a positive meaningful way? How do I find my calling and figure out exactly what I want to talk about and say?"
I am in deep gratitude for this experience of working with this medium. My first podcast in the ChinesePod studio in Taiwan interviewing my first supporter of reMINDme Values. It's a complete "that was then...and this is now" moment and "I can't wait to see what comes up for the future" spin of the mind wheel for me.
I am in deep gratitude for the insights Fiona has provided and the fact we can both lighten up and live our values with intention and purpose, to spread a message we believe in and constantly work on ourselves and our voice for the betterment of humanity.
I am in deep gratitude to connect dots and discover that we are not so different from each other. YOU are not alone. We are all human. We are all trying to be the best version of ourselves. We are all trying to be of Service. The question is just how? What tools do we need to get to where we are going and say with conviction and excitement "This is exactly where I need to be. And I'm doing okay"
I think everyone is doing just a fine job being themselves. Once you figure out the values that have gotten you thus far, focus on that as anchors, while building up other facets of your life, things will keep moving forward. Believe it.
(I'm talking to myself too).
Thank you for listening,
